How we work

Here is exactly what happens when you come to us.

Starting is the hardest part. So we want you to know every step, who you will meet and what to expect, before you walk through the door.

The pathway

Five clear steps

  1. 1

    We talk (free, 20 minutes)

You speak with a member of our team by phone or Zoom. Tell us what worries you. We listen, answer your questions and suggest the best next step. There is no pressure to book anything.

    • Who you meet: our admissions team and, if needed, a clinician
    • How long: 20 minutes
    • Cost: free
  2. 2

    We understand (assessment)

A psychologist and the clinical team look at how your child learns, thinks, communicates, plays and feels. We speak to you about your child’s early years. With your permission we also ask the teacher or caregiver.

Testing is done in short, friendly sessions over 2–3 days, depending on your child’s age and needs.

    • Who you meet: a licensed psychologist and assessment team
    • How long: testing over 2–3 days
    • Cost: see Fees
  3. 3

    We explain (feedback session)

You sit down with the psychologist and go through the results in plain language. If your child meets the criteria for a diagnosis, we explain it. If they don’t, we still explain what we found and what to do. Not every assessment ends in a diagnosis, and that is fine. The goal is understanding.

You take home a written report that you can share with the school.

  4. 4

    We plan (support plan)

We turn the findings into a personal support plan, an Individualised Education Plan (IEP). It lists your child’s goals, which therapies they need, how often, and what the school can do. Everything is written so a teacher and a parent can follow it.

  5. 5

    We support and review

Your child begins the support they need: speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, behaviour therapy, learning support, group sessions or time in our therapy gym. We keep in touch with you and the school, and we review progress regularly and change the plan when your child changes.

    • Sessions are 45 minutes
    • Monthly packages: 4, 8 or 12–16 sessions
    • Built in: parent training and feedback

Things that make visits easier

  • Tell us if your child is sensitive to noise, light or touch. We can adjust.
  • Tell us if your child needs a quieter time of day.
  • You can stay with your child when appropriate.
  • We use pictures and simple words to explain what is coming next.
